The Annual Spring Book Sale is the Friends of J-MRL’s primary fundraiser. Proceeds from this annual event benefit the Jefferson-Madison Regional Library’s programs and facilities. All of the books sold are donated by members of our communities. The annual book sale is truly a Charlottesville treasure! (The October “Holiday Sale is pretty good too!)
Last year, more than 200 volunteers contributed countless hours to move thousands of books onto shelves, into customers’ hands and out the door. Thousands of shoppers, book dealers (and some browsers, too!) came, and there were over five thousand transactions during the two traditional sales, enabling the Friends to raise $140,954 for library programs and special projects. Because of the exceptionally large stock available, the Main Sale was extended by five days – prices being one-fourth of the marked price – and an additional $5,206 raised through 931 transactions. That truly was a win-win situation for those lucky customers!

Although the spring book sale has traditionally been held at the Gordon Avenue Library (see below) we recognize that parking is a significant problem for our customers. Therefore, the Friends are investigating the possibility of moving the spring 2009 sale to a different location that will provide better amenities for the all-important folks, the customers and the volunteers! The outcome of the feasibility study will influence the dates of the sale, so please be patient, watch this space, and we will have definite information on when and where as soon as we can.
